I’ve finally gotten around to posting this list of all my favorite Zero Waste bathroom items! These are all found locally in Manila and most stores have online shops that can ship everywhere else in the country. I hope this list gives you the convenience of switching to a zero waste bathroom and help promote local products as well.
- Tooth tablets to replace traditional tooth paste. Tooth paste tubes cannot be recycled and because they are made of plastic, once you throw them out they stay forever in the landfill or get washed to the sea where huge fish like whales or sharks can swallow them and cause it harm because no living thing can digest plastic. I love the ones made by Ecocare.ph because they come in either a box or a tin can that you can refill for when you are traveling.

There are a lot of good brands for shampoo bars but I particularly love the ones by Klara because not only are they cheap and come in cute paper boxes but they last a really long time. - Face soap to replace face wash in plastic bottles. Any mild soap can be used instead of these liquid ones, the key thing to healthy skin is a combination of eating healthy food like whole fruits and vegetables, hydration, and putting less harsh products on your skin! Ask your dermatologist and they will tell you as much as well.
- Feminine bars to replace feminine washes. Best Honey Ph and Ilog Maria both have great feminine bars but I just like that Best Honey has theirs sans plastic! - Sisal pouch instead of plastic sponges. Those plastics loofahs or scrubs you have in your bathroom won’t disappear after you’re done with them. Switch to either natural loofahs made from the vegetable or actual sea sponges, but another local alternative would be pouches made from the fiber of the sisal plant and you can easily put your soap into the pouch, wet the entire thing and start scrubbing away at your skin. It’s mild and once I feel like it’s to worn for my skin I just use it to clean my bathroom and then use it in my garden once it gets really dirty. It just decomposes into the soil and I could forget about it. - Menstrual cups or Washable pads to replace one time use plastics pads.
