Health at Every Size (Part 2)

Based on the videos I’ve seen this phrase means that it is possible to be healthy at any size. The problem with this statement is that it is false. The correct phrase should be it is possible to be healthy as long as your weight and body fat percentage is within the healthy range for your age and height no matter how your body shape is. There can be some outliers but they are few and far in between. The problem with claiming that it is possible to be a healthy human being no matter what size can be misleading. People who are genuinely obese cannot be healthy by all metrics of health, they would not be cardiovascularly healthy because they wouldn’t be able to even walk at a fast pace without getting winded because if you have ever tried to push and carry around several additional pounds of weight on your body all day everyday you would know that it’s just not possible. Carrying around too much fat around your body cannot be healthy so health at every size is misleading.

Health at every size should focus on a person who is within the healthy range but does not necessarily look like the next person with the same age and height. It is possible to be the same sex, age, and height but weigh differently and at the same time look really different. It would depend on the body fat percentage of the individual and the natural structure of the body. Some people keep fat in their thighs and this is okay but it would look different from a person who tends to keep more fat in their midsection, the person who keeps fat in their thighs may have less risk for certain disease but if they both fall into the healthy range and keep a reasonably healthy diet and fitness routine then both of them are healthy even if they look different from one another.

A person can be healthy at any shape as long as they fit into the healthy range of weight and body fat percentage for their individual height, sex, and age.
